About Lake County Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Since 2014, Lake County Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (LCBJJ) has been the premier destination for martial arts training in the GLMV area (Green Oaks, Libertyville, Mundelein, and Vernon Hills). We are committed to providing top-tier Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction for both kids and adults, offering a structured path from beginner to advanced levels in a safe, supportive, and family-friendly environment.
Our kids program is tailored to different age groups, with specialized classes for ages 5-7 and 8-12. Every new student begins in our Basic program, where they build a strong foundation in BJJ and essential character values. As they progress, they can move into our Leadership program, where they develop higher-level skills, leadership qualities, and even gain competition experience. Our Leadership students serve as role models and mentors, reinforcing the core values of discipline, respect, and perseverance.
For adults, we offer both Gi and No-Gi classes, with training options ranging from beginner-friendly fundamentals to advanced sessions for experienced practitioners. Whether you're looking to get in shape, learn self-defense, or compete, our structured curriculum ensures steady progress at every level.
We understand that schedules can be demanding, which is why we offer morning and evening classes, six days a week, to accommodate all lifestyles. Our school is built on a strong sense of community, where students push each other to grow, both on and off the mats.
At Lake County BJJ, we take pride in helping students of all ages build confidence, develop resilience, and achieve their goals—both in martial arts and in life. Come train with us and experience the difference!

Instructor/Owner
Carlos Archila
I began my Jiu-Jitsu journey in 2005 and am now a Second Degree Black Belt under Leo Vieira. Early on, I discovered my passion for teaching, leading both adult and kids’ classes as a blue belt—something rare at the time. Teaching has always been a calling for me, and I take great pride in helping students grow both on and off the mats.
In 2013, my wife and I found ourselves at a crossroads, trying to figure out our future plans. She very bluntly asked me, “What do you want to do with the rest of your life?” Without hesitation, I answered, “All I want to do is train and teach Jiu-Jitsu.”
With no students and no business experience, we took a leap of faith and opened Lake County Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Growth was slow at first, and I had to learn through trial and error how to run a school. But with the right mentors, I gained the skills to build, manage, and lead a martial arts team.
Now, 10 years later, we’ve become the premier Jiu-Jitsu school in Lake County. In that time, we’ve helped hundreds, if not thousands, of people in the GLMV area experience the life-changing benefits of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
I am also an Army Reserve veteran, joining at the age of 17. During Advanced Individual Training (AIT), I took on the role of team leader and quickly moved up to squad leader. Unfortunately, my training ended before I could accept my next promotion to platoon leader—all before turning 18. Cultivating leadership has always been a priority for me, and it remains one of the most important aspects of our programs.
As an instructor, I focus on detail, repetition, and connecting movements to create a deeper understanding of Jiu-Jitsu. I consider myself a lifelong white belt—always looking to continue my learning. Achieving the rank of black belt doesn't mean you stop learning; it signals the need to keep learning. This is an attitude I instill in all my students.
I also hold a BA in Sociology from Northern Illinois University and understand the pivotal role a positive environment plays in shaping character. I believe Jiu-Jitsu and martial arts have the power to transform lives as it did mine, and that is why I'm still so passionate about teaching. I’m excited to continue building a community where students of all ages can develop confidence, discipline, and leadership skills through Jiu-Jitsu.

Nefeli Papadakis
My name is Nefeli Papadakis, and I’m 26 years old. I have been practicing martial arts my entire life! I grew up in Gurnee, IL, and began training in Judo at the age of four, later adding Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at nine. It didn’t take long for me to realize my passion for combat sports, and shortly after I began competing as a young girl, I set my sights on the ultimate goal—competing in the Olympic Games for Judo.
At 22, I achieved that dream by representing Team USA Judo at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Throughout my athletic career, I competed in and won numerous state, national, and international tournaments. Some of my proudest achievements include being a three-time Senior National Champion and a three-time Pan American Championships medalist.
When I wasn’t competing or training, I was teaching Judo. I began coaching kids at just 14 years old and have always loved helping young athletes develop their skills. Today, I have shifted my focus from competing to training the next generation at Lake County Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I’m passionate about working with kids who share the same aspirations I had growing up, and I look forward to guiding them as they grow—not just as athletes, but as individuals.
